HISTORY

1905

The John Frederick Wiessner Orphanage for Children was established in the area known as Highlandtown, in Baltimore City, Maryland by John Frederick Wiessner, a Baltimore brewer and ice house magnate.

1939

The orphanage moved to 4915 Holder Avenue in Hamilton, where it continued in operation for the next 33 years.

1947

The name was changed to the John Frederick Wiessner Home for Children.

1984

To better meet the ever changing needs of children, the John F. Wiessner Foundation, Inc. was formed.

1996

To better describe our purpose, the name was changed to The Wiessner Foundation for Children, Inc.
